July 31 - Badajoz to Salema, Portugal

Olive "plantation" seen in the Algarve

Deluxe paddleboat at Praia de Salema

Great view from our balcony

Today we woke up in our 4 star hotel (El Cheapo isn’t that cheap anymore), and watched very, very boring little kid TV shows. We had breakfast at a place that made me long for McDonalds. There was garbage all over the floor (cigarettes, used tissues, etc.). We had a long drive ahead of us, so we ate the most nutritious breakfast. We stopped for lunch at a park, and had not ham and cheese, but PB&J! We drove on and on and on and on and on, till we got to the village of Salema, then got lost, then got lost again, then finally arrived at our apartment. Our apartment is not quite as nice as the others we’ve stayed in this trip, but it has 5 real beds so I was fine with it. We went swimming at a beach that is just down the street. It’s a pretty good beach, with some rocks to jump off of to the left. There are these things that are paddleboats with a platform on the end that has a slide, and a ladder to get in from the water. We are going to rent one tomorrow. We had dinner at some place just down the street, but it was quality food. I got pork with fries, Ryan got chicken with fries, Katie got a salad, my dad got a swordfish, and my mom got crab. I realized that this entire trip I have tasted: Octopus, Swordfish, Crab, and Bachaleu. We then walked home and went to bed.

Sorry gang... no WiFi here so the posting will be light in terms of photos and timing... check back though, we'll keep you up to date, albeit irregularly!  Cathy

  1. El Cheapo just told you it was 4 stars, but I think he pulled a fast one on you kids.
